WINTER WONDERLAND VACATION!

HELLO STRANGERS! :)

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've written! I've been working and on vacation, so I've been busy. But I'm back now, and on our vacation I took a TON of pictures -- like around 1,000, so I cut them down to just a few.... to share with you guys... a few, I promise! :)

But first, not a lot of you know about Rachel. Rachel is -- simply put -- one of the girls that was in the foster home with me. We've remained pretty close over the years and I look up to her as the older sister I never had... She's a psychologist now that helps rehabilitate foster kids and help them become successful adults. She is everything that we both needed so badly when we entered adulthood but we didn't have 8 years ago when we needed it. So both Rachel and I fought -- hard -- swimming uphill trying to be successful and graduate college without ever attending high school. And 8 years later, we've done it: we are both working on our advance degrees and we are both trying to give back to the world, making the world a better place.

This is Rachel. Since our names are only separated by a single "E," there was a time when we were growing up they simply referred to us as "Salt & Pepper." Can you guess who is Salt?

I love Rachel to pieces. She's now married to her best friend, Stephen, they've been married for about two years now.

So, this year, when "ALL" Christian wanted for Christmas was to see snow... I made a phone call to my older sister and my best friend. I wanted an excuse to see her anyhow.

Our trip was PERFECT: beautiful weather on both days we flew, but two snowstorms in between our flights. We arrived to no snow, but the next morning we woke to a beautiful 12 inch blanket that covered everything for miles...

So, enough of my jabbering... BRING ON THE PICS!!!

UM, OF COURSE we went to Boston. GO... RED....SOX!!!!!

So... I was a little excited about going to Boston. A little.

This pretty much sums up Christian's behavior during the trip....

DAY ON THE SLOPES!

Christian's first time seeing snow... when we went intertubing.... That very first day! It hadn't snowed yet, so we drove to the slopes!!!

In The Picture Below: Rachel and I are recovering from a high-speed down hill intertube experience that was, by far, much more terrifying than either of us had anticipated. NOTE: while we are still thinking: "Oh My Gosh, that was terrifying!" Christian's already leaving, heading out for another terrifying run.

SNOW DAY!!!!!!

So Then It Snowed. Here's Rachel & Steve's house: an 18th century Victorian Mansion that was absolutely BEAUTIFUL...

Yes I went outside...but not for long!

YES I DID. I MADE A SNOW ANGEL. True Story!!!

Christian Hanging Out With Steve!

Of Course, when it snows, somebody's gotta shovel. SO! Bring in Christian & Steve. Now, I observed this, and poor Steve probably got just as much snow in his face as Christian managed to get OFF the walkway, but they had fun nonetheless!

New Year's Eve @ Steve's Parents House (Eddie & Jean)

It was cold. I told ya.

Eddie and Jean (Steve's Parents)

Very social Christian brought in the new year with his Webkinz. He played that thing all night!!!

BEAUTIFUL NEW ENGLAND

OK, So I had to show you SOME of the beautiful, historical, and famous New England Sites.

Yes, Floridians, that is SNOW and BEACH together in the SAME PICTURE!

THE PROVIDENCE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Okay, so this was some sort of small green room with a million mirrors. I look wild in this picture! Do I really have rabies? I'll never tell.

Okay, In this picture, Rachel is pointing to a demonstration on the window of her hometown, Irvine, California. It was very strange to find a drawing of her hometown on a window in the Providence (Rhode Island) Children's Museum.

MORE SNOW PLAY, AT NIGHT, WITH STEVE, AT JEAN N' EDDIES!

BTW: In the giant field of undisturbed snow behind the house, Steve and Christian wrote "Christian" in giant snow letters. Course I couldn't get the whole name in one picture, but I did my best... and got the important part!

1st Snowball Fight...

Aunt Rachel is a PRO at getting Christian dressed appropriately for the snow... It's like she does this sort of stuff for a living or something.....

This poor bush is just COVERED with Icycles. Christian wanted to bring Icycles home with him to "remember Rachel and Steve by." Unfortunately, icycles probably wouldn't survive the transit from Massachusetts (Pronouced by Christian -- and a couple times by myself by ACCIDENT as Massatwoshits) back to Florida. So we had to leave the icycles there. Can you imagine trying to explain the icycles to airport security???

THE BOSTON MUSEUM OF SCIENCE
*AMAZING*

Boston Skyline At Dusk.. The "Water" is Ice!

Lots of Brains! *This was mostly for my NeuroSurg Buddies!*

The Butterfly Exhibit: Always Fun for Amateur Photographers!

ROAR! (Before the beginning of the Dinosaur IMAX movie that made me soooo nauseated!)

Dinosaur Bones!

Camera WARS! Take a picture of me taking a picture of you!

THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY WINGS IN THIS MUSEUM. I could have spent a month in that museum and MAYBE have time to study everything there. I was in absolute NERD HEAVEN.... SERIOUSLY.

The Lightning Show. They actually made REAL lightning!

These giant balls are the creators of the indoor lightning. I wish I was joking. 20,000+ volts of electricity. Real lightning. Inside. For real.

UM, Christian's WORLD! When I asked him if he wanted to go to the Mathematica Exhibit, his answer was: I don't need to go there Mom, I already know all there is to know about Math. But once I got him in there I couldn't get him out of there!!!!

Christian building a solar car!!!

More Electricity

On an Escalator: Now mind you, escalators with Christian are fun because he has a hard time judging when to step on and off. So there's a lot of: "One, Two, Three! STEP CHRISTIAN!"

The original Neurosurgy rack computer. This one was for me, and for my NSG buddies.

The AMAZING Planetarium!

Learning Hands-On: Cool Rocks!

Rachel & Christian: Who's Taller? This should clear it up. (JUST TEASIN! I LOVE YOU RACHEL!!!)

Christian apparently knows how to Bee-Have.

But Mom Apparently Does not know how to Bee-Have.

MMMK, so I have to explain this one! They had aquariums with small animals in them, but there was a tunnel under them so that the kids could crawl into the tunnel and poke their heads up inside the aquarium. So that's where he is in this picture. No, he's not a space man.

Yes, that is a dead blow-fish on my head.

Christian is in a "bubble" trying to take a picture of a chipmunk.

That's my Homie. He's a black bear. We really should hang out more often!

The Boston skyline at noon, yes, the water is still ice!

At the end of the day, Christian was.... exhausted.

And that concludes the pictures I wanted to share with ya'll!

I hope you enjoyed all the pictures! I had about 1,000., so this is the "condensed" version. LOVE YA'LL!

Now, I have a TON of homework/housework/laundry to do in the next 12 hours before I head back to work, so I'll go ahead and post this. ENJOY!

Much love to you all.

Rachele

Wow, Wow, Wow!! Looks like you guys had a fabulous time up there! I'm so glad you got to experience snow -- how very fun (and cold!). Your sister Rachel looks like an angel -- she is so pretty. I'm glad you got to go visit her and Steve.

Sounds like an amazing trip. And so beautiful! The houses and the family memories. They just don't build stuff like that here in AZ. It has been so much fun to have Elder Jensen home. He talked about you quite a bit. You made a huge impact on him. Thanks so much. You are very inspiring. Loved the post.
